Hiking Trails near our Cashiers Lodging
Foothill Trails - 2.5 miles - moderate/strenuous
From Cashiers North Carolina, drive south on NC and SC 107 9.3 miles to SC 413 and a sign for Whitewater Falls. Turn left and continue 2.3 miles to the intersection with SC 130. Make another left and drive north on SC 130, which becomes NC 281 at the state line. Just beyond the state line is a sign for Whitewater Falls. Visitors coming from Toxaway and other points east should start at US 64 and 281 and drive south 8.6 miles to the Whitewater Falls parking area.
Little Green Loop - 5.5 miles - moderate/strenuous
From Cashiers drive east 2 miles on US 64 to Cedar Creek Road on the left. Drive up Cedar Creek Road 2 miles to its intersection with Breedlove Road.
Moss Gap Area - 3 miles - moderate/strenuous
From US 64 and Ellijay Road (SR 1001) south of Franklin in Macon County drive northeast on Ellijay Road 9.6 miles to SR 1522. Or from NC 107 and Tilley Creek Road (SR 1001) south of Sylva, drive southwest 6.6 miles on SR 1001 through Speedwell to the Jackson-Macon County line. SR 1522 is on the Macon County side. Moss Gap and FS 323 is 1.2 miles and 200 feet above SR 1001. The bike route may be started at SR 1001 or at the Gap.
Schoolhouse Falls - 2.5 miles - moderate/strenuous
From Cashiers drive east 2 miles on US 64 to Cedar Creek Road on the left. Drive up Cedar Creek Road 2 miles to its intersection with Breedlove Road. Continue on Breedlove approximately 4 miles to its end and the parking area for Panthertown.
Silver Run Falls Trail - 0.3 miles - easy
Silver Run Falls is located 4 miles south of Cashiers on North Carolina 107.
Standing Indian Basin Trails - 32 miles - strenuous
From Franklin, take U.S. 64 W for 9 miles. Turn left on old 64 for 2 miles. Turn right on FR 67 (gravel) toward Standing Indian Campground. There are several trailheads.
Whiteside Mountain Trail - 2 miles - strenuous
From Highlands, take U.S. 64 E for about 5 miles. Turn right on NC 1680 (Whiteside Mountain Road) and follow the signs to the trailhead.
Yellow Mountain Trail - 4.8 miles - strenuous
Drive east on US 64 from Highlands 2.7 miles and turn left onto Buck Creek Road. Continue 2.3 miles up to Cole Gap. There is a sign and steps at the trail head on the right side of Buck Creek Road.
Whitewater falls -Upper Whitewater Falls, located in the Nantahala National Forest near Cashiers, North Carolina, drops over 411 feet and is the highest falls east of the Rocky Mountains. Lower Whitewater Falls, located just across the border in South Carolina, drops another 400 feet. The rugged terrain around these two waterfalls remains wild and undeveloped. A paved, wheel-chair accessible walkway leads from the parking lot to the upper overlook which provides an excellent view of the upper Whitewater Falls. A lower overlook is located at the bottom of 154 wooden steps. Because of the difficult terrain surrounding Whitewater Falls, visitors are urged not venture off the established trails.
